Course Overview

Sleep technologists have seen major changes in their profession with the recent advances in technology related to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. During this two-day course, an expert faculty will address these changes and the impact they have on the sleep center and sleep technologists. Topics include implementing out-of-center sleep testing, equipment and device selection, long-term care of the sleep patient, outcomes tracking and future planning for sleep centers.

Target Audience

This course is relevant to sleep technologists and sleep center managers seeking to implement out-of-center sleep testing and develop innovative programs to keep your sleep centers on the cutting edge of sleep medicine.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will:
  • Review how to implement out-of-center sleep testing (OCST) at the sleep center by identifying relevant policies and procedures, selecting devices and understanding insurance and AASM accreditation standards
  • Explain the implications of implementing OCST in terms of insurance coverage, authorization and compliance
  • Describe future planning techniques for the sleep center by identifying staffing needs and methods for restructuring operations
  • Evaluate new opportunities for sleep centers including offering PAP-NAPs, physician clinics, DME, oral appliance therapy and behavioral sleep medicine
  • Track patient outcomes, focusing on compliance and insurance requirements, particularly with long-term care patients
  • Describe the legal issues involved with the use of social media in a sleep center

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The American Association of Sleep Technologists has approved the AAST Advances in Sleep Technology course for 13.00 continuing education credits (CECs); an application has been submitted to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for Continuing Respiratory Care Education (CRCE) contact hours for respiratory therapists.

All participants requesting AAST CECs or AARC CRCE credits must return the credit claim form included with the registration materials to the AAST information desk upon completion of the course. An AAST representative will be available to address any questions or concerns during the course. Credit letters will be emailed by the AAST approximately four to six weeks following the course.
