Membership Benefits
Member-Only Discounts
Members receive discounts on registration fees to the AAST Annual Meeting, and the Advanced and Fundamentals courses. In addition, members will save on more than 20 products covering a variety of topics such as career pathways in the sleep technology profession, understanding sleep disorders, preparation for the certification exam, promotional products and many more.
A2Zzz
AAST members receive a quarterly subscription to A2Zzz, the publication that keeps members informed of AAST news, professional development opportunities, and committee work. All members are encouraged to submit articles for consideration. In addition, members can earn 1.5 AAST CECs per issue (up to 6 per year).
Career Resources
Employers recognize the AAST as the premier allied health organization for sleep technologists. Employers post their employment opportunities on the AAST Job Board, and members have the opportunity to notify employers of their search for a particular job by posting a notice in the “Positions Wanted” Section of the AAST Web site.
Members Only Section on Website
The members’ only section allows members to view archives of A2Zzz, see a complete list of calendar of events, participate in a discussion forum, search for positions available in the sleep technology profession, and share technical tips commonly used amongst members in sleep disorders centers.

Advocacy
The AAST is the leading advocate for the sleep technology profession, working to defend and expand the independent practice of sleep technology across the United States by monitoring federal and state actions, and providing a united voice.
Awards
Each year the AAST recognizes individual members for their professional excellence, service and commitment to the association and to the sleep technology profession. AAST award recipients will be recognized in an awards ceremony conducted at the Annual Meeting, receive a plaque, complimentary registration to the AAST Annual Meeting, reimbursement for travel to and from the Annual Meeting, hotel accommodations and meals (not to exceed three days). AAST members are encouraged to recognize other member’s contributions and achievements.
The Peter A. McGregor, RPSGT Service Award - This award is presented to a member of the AAST who has exhibited outstanding service and contribution to the association and organizational development.
The Elliott Weitzman, MD Service Award - This award is presented to a member of the AAST in recognition of service and dedication to the advancement of the sleep technology profession.
The Sharon Keenan, PhD, RPSGT Service Award -This award is presented to a member of the AAST for outstanding contributions to sleep technology education.
The Mary Carskadon, PhD Literary Award * - This award is presented to a member of the AAST for recognition based on an original abstract in clinical or basic research deemed to represent excellence by a sleep technologist.
The Allen DeVilbiss, MD Literary Award *- This award is presented to a member of the AAST for recognition of an original article published in A2Zzz Magazine deemed to represent excellence in technical literary writing by a sleep technologist.
The German Nino-Murcia, MD Achievement Award - This award is presented to an AAST member who has recently passed the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists credentialing examination and who best exemplifies excellence in the performance of a polysomnogram and in patient care.
Standardized Education
The AAST recognizes the need for the sleep technology education to be standardized. To meet this need the AAST, AASM, BRPT and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) have cooperated to establish, maintain and promote appropriate standards of quality for educational programs in sleep technology and to provide recognition for educational programs that meet or exceed the minimum standards outlined in the CAAHEP Standards of Accreditation. CAAHEP provides accreditation services for sleep technology programs through the Committee on Accreditation for Polysomnographic Technologist Education (CoA PSG). The AAST supports the CoA PSG as well as the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s (AASM) Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP).
Committees
The AAST provides members with the opportunity to volunteer for one of the following standing committees: CEC Accreditation, Communications, Education Products, Government Affairs, Membership, Program, and Standards and Guidelines Committee. The AAST conducts a “Call for Volunteers” each year inviting members to join an AAST Standing Committee.
Educational Resources
The AAST is the preeminent provider of educational and professional resources for sleep technology profession. The association has developed several resources to assist sleep technicians prepare for the certification exam. In addition, the AAST has developed job descriptions, core competencies and technical guidelines to advance the profession.
Networking
The AAST provides members with several meeting opportunities, ways to get involved within the AAST, and an expanded membership directory that includes more than 15,000 professionals in the sleep profession.
