Dear AAST: What Are the New CCSH Modules?
Dear AAST,I saw that you launched new certification in clinical sleep health (CCSH) modules. Are these the same as the old modules or is the content different?
Dear Curious CCSHer,
You are correct — we did launch new CCSH modules. The enhanced AAST CCSH Designated Focused Education Program recorded modules series is an updated educational resource that will allow those with their registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT) certification to become eligible to earn their CCSH. Content provided in the eight modules has been updated by industry professionals and will position those working in sleep to better communicate with patients, acquire new skills and adapt their practices to changing patient health needs as well as differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive industry.
The modules include:
- Module 1: Normal Sleep and Circadian Rhythms
- Module 2: Evaluation of Sleep Disorders
- Module 3: Clinical Evaluation and Management for the CCSH
- Module 4: Incidence and Prevalence of Sleep Disorders
- Module 5: Clinical Evaluation — Part One
- Module 6: Clinical Evaluation — Part Two
- Module 7: Patient Follow Up and Management
- Module 8: Case Study Scenarios
Obtaining the CCSH
Upon completion of this module series and receiving a passing score on the post-test, RPSGT credential holders who have re-certified at least once will be eligible for the CCSH credential. To apply, candidates must provide proof they passed the post-test with a greater than 70% score to receive a certificate of eligibility. The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) also requires current basic life support (BLS) certification for eligibility. This course has been approved for 7.5 credits by AAST and the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
The enhanced AAST CCSH Designated Focused Education Program recorded modules are available to both AAST members and nonmembers. Additional information can be found in the AAST Learning Center:
