The results of the evidence report and systematic review are described. The implications of the findings for sleep medicine are debated and recommendations for research priorities are assessed.
The Case of the Month for February is #17:
COPD and Mild REM-Related Apnea
A patient with COPD suspected of sleep apnea is discussed. The clinical history provides a starting point for a discussion of pre-test risk evaluation and the possibility of an out of center sleep study is evaluated. A sleep study is reviewed showing mild REM-related apnea. The controversy regarding treatment of mild apnea and REM-predominant apnea is reviewed.
