About AAST
Established in 1978 as the Association of Polysomnographic Technologists (APT),
the American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST) is the premier allied health
membership association of professionals dedicated to improving the quality of sleep
and wakefulness in all people. The AAST is the leading advocate for the sleep technology
profession.
The AAST membership consists of more than 4200 sleep technologists working
in a variety of careers (i.e. clinical, research, education, sales, etc.).
For three decades
the AAST has been advancing, preserving and promoting the sleep technology profession.
As a national health care membership association of professionals dedicated to improving
the quality of sleep and wakefulness in all people, AAST promotes and advances the
sleep technology profession through continued development of educational, technical
and clinical excellence in sleep disorders centers.
Trained in Sleep
Technology and relevant aspects of Sleep Medicine, sleep technologists assist in
the evaluation and follow-up care of patients with sleep disorders as identified
in the current
International Classification of Sleep Disorders.
The mission of the
AAST is to promote and advance the sleep technology profession through the continued
development of educational, technical and clinical excellence in sleep disorders.
The AAST Board of
Directors consists of four officers (President, President-Elect/Immediate Past President,
Secretary, and Treasurer) and seven Directors-at-Large.
Members of the AAST
have the opportunity to participate in one of the seven standing committees: CEC
Accreditation, Communications, Educational Products, Government Affairs, Membership,
Program, and Standards and Guidelines.
