AAST recognizes individual members for their professional excellence, service and commitment to the association and to the sleep technology profession in the following areas of commitment; Leadership to the growth and development of AAST, Service of the sleep technology profession, Professional Development and Service to advancing education in sleep technology, and for Literary excellence for authoring a original published article, paper, or textbook/resource chapter as a literary writing for a sleep technologist.
Nominations are evaluated annually by the AAST Awards Committee, consisting of AAST Board members and current AAST volunteers. The nominations are open from August 1-31, annually.

AAST Leadership Award
This award honors and recognizes an AAST member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities through commitment to the growth and development of the AAST and was established in 1995 to honor Mr. McGregor, who was instrumental in forming the AAST in 1978.
This award honors and recognizes an AAST member who has made significant contributions to the growth and development of the sleep technology profession and was established in 1984 to honor Dr. Weitzman, who provided a tremendous amount of support and encouragement to the development of the AAST.
This award honors and recognizes an AAST member who demonstrates exceptional commitment to advancing education in sleep technology and was established in 2002 to honor Dr. Sharon Keenan, a pioneer in training, education, and professional development for sleep technologists,
This award honors and recognizes an AAST member for an original published article, paper, or textbook chapter that represents excellence in technical literary writing by a sleep technologist and was established in 2002 to recognize a member of the AAST for an original published article.
