Meet Jocelyn Zakri, the AAST member of the month!

Every month, the AAST will highlight the accomplishments of one of our talented members.  Want to nominate someone or yourself as the AAST's member of the month? Fill out our form at the end of this article!

Jocelyn Zakri, a scoring technologist from Syracuse, New York knew she wanted to end up with a career in sleep medicine.

While Jocelyn was pursuing her graduate degree in psychology, she pursued an internship at a sleep center that led to what she describes as an “a ha!” moment.

After working in other industries and earning her respiratory therapist credential, Jocelyn worked in a two-bed sleep center until she “worked her way up” to become the scoring technologist that she is today.

Since she started working in the field of sleep technology, Jocelyn became an AAST member in 2009.

“I was drawn to become a member because I was looking for CEC opportunities that I could easily earn without attending a two-day conference,” she said.

Because not all sleep technologists have the time or resources to attend national or regional sleep conferences, earning CECs by purchasing online modules or redeeming free CEC credits online works well for technologists like Jocelyn.

“I really enjoy the A2Zzz articles, the subject matter of the articles is always progressive and informative to those in the field and I think being a member has kept me aware of the most important updates in sleep medicine,” she added.

As a regular contributor to the AAST blog, Jocelyn finds that writing is just another easy way you can reach other sleep technologists while making a difference within your own organization.

There’s a lot an AAST membership can give you.

For Jocelyn, it was the informative A2Zzz articles, AAST blog and especially the job board that helped her advance her career within the field.

That is why Jocelyn has been writing for the AAST blog; to give back to the sleep technologist community what she has learned from her experience in the field and from the AAST.

“Becoming a member is an opportunity to be a part of your profession,” says Jocelyn. “Doctors, lawyers and those in other professions are a part of a greater organization because they are dedicated to becoming a part of a community of likeminded professionals dedicated to their profession and doing a great job.”
