Ask The President: Where Can I Find My CECs?

Sleep Technologist Advice

ASK_THE_PRESIDENT_.pngWhere do I find my AAST CEC Transcript?

In this week's Ask The President, AAST President Laura Linley advises a member on the easiest way to find their CEC records.

Our question for the week was: "I need to recertify in 2016, how can I get my transcript of AAST-approved courses I attended?"

Finding Your CEC Transcript

As benefit of membership (no additional fee), you can access an online transcript of the AAST Continuing Education Credits (CECs) you have earned.  This transcript is printable, can be saved as a PDF file, and may be used to demonstrate that you have completed the continuing education requirements for maintenance of your RPSGT or RST certification.  We recently made an update to the transcript filter feature, and now you can choose a date range for your CEC report. This means that you don’t have to download every CEC you have earned over the years, which is a great feature for those of us that have been AAST members for a long time!  You can also now filter your search by type/category of CEC credit.

AAST transcripts validate the Continuing Education Credits (CECs) awarded to our members by educational providers that offer AAST Continuing Education Credits and those earned by accessing AAST Educational Courses and Learning Modules.   CEC transcript updates for courses offered by providers who have obtained AAST CEC credits for their programs are based on the student lists received from those educational providers.  Please allow 90 days after the completion of an educational program for your AAST CEC transcript to be updated.

The AAST CEC transcript is recognized by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for re-credentialing.  The AAST is here to assist you in meeting the requirements for maintaining your credential. Don’t forget to take advantage of your FREE member CECs every month.  We also list upcoming opportunities for educational programs that offer AAST continuing education credits on our Website.  In addition, we provide numerous online learning modules on current topics of importance to sleep technologists. We are currently offering a 3 CEC Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome Bundle at a discounted rate.

Re-credentialing is a best practice in all allied health professions. Investing in continuing education and maintaining your competency year after year will assure that you meet the state and federal requirements for certification that allow you to practice in the sleep technology field.  The AAST takes education seriously and offers outstanding educational benefits for our members!
