On Tuesday, June 14, Laree Fordyce, RPSGT, RST, CCRP and Rakesh Bhatlacharjee, MD,  alongside Joel Porquez, RST, RPSGT, CCSH, will review pediatric sleep center programs and provide recommendations for pediatric sleep services.

Laree is currently the president and technical director of Sound Sleep Solutions. Sleep education is her passion; she is also the Clinical Sleep Educator for the Maple Respiratory Group in both Colombia and China.

Laree has been actively participating in sleep medicine for over 20 years, working in multiple capacities including as a clinical sleep educator, technical director, sleep therapist and research coordinator; in both pediatric and adult sleep medicine.

She is also a member of the AAST Program Committee.

About Dr. Bhatlacharjee

headshot_1-1.jpgDr. Bhattacharjee is an expert in pediatric sleep medicine, and specializes in pulmonary disorders (including apnea and sleep‐related breathing problems). He is the director of Pediatric Sleep Medicine at Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego and an associate professor of Pediatrics at University of California San Diego.

His clinical interests are in developing strategies to diagnose and treat obstructive sleep apnea in children. His existing research focuses on cardiovascular impairment in patients suffering from sleep disorders, as well as the impact of childhood obesity on pediatric sleep apnea.

He has received multiple awards and grants for his research from notable organizations, including the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American Thoracic Society, and the American Pediatric Society/Society of Pediatric Research.

Dr. Bhattacharjee earned his medical degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and trained in pediatrics and respiratory medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He received his sleep medicine training at the University of Louisville.

Pediatrics 101 and Scoring

Objectives:

  1. Review sleep center program highlights for pediatric sleep services.
  2. Discuss the AMA clinical guidelines for ordering pediatric sleep services.
  3. Discuss how to educate referring offices on how to order pediatric sleep services.
