Marietta Bellamy Bibbs is well-known in sleep disorders technology-having worked in the field since 1976. She started her career at Baylor College of Medicine and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX working on a split payroll. She worked with some of the pioneers in clinical sleep medicine (Dr. Ismet Karacan, Max Hirshkowitz, J. Catesby Ware) and was intimately involved in much of the clinical research in sleep disorders while working at Baylor.

For many years she helped to train Sleep Fellows, Residents and Interns from all over the world and she has trained and mentored numerous sleep technologists throughout her career. Marietta is passionate about sleep medicine and continues to work tirelessly to urge other sleep technologists to get involved and think of sleep technology as a career and not just a job.

Through her years of service in the profession, Marietta has always been intimately involved with education. She started the first regional educational meeting for sleep technologists (The SE/SW Regional Meeting), served as president of BRPT, chaired BRPT Exam Development and Educational Advisory Committees, worked on the AAST Education Committee, published articles and book chapters, worked to develop relationships with sleep technologists in other countries so that they had the opportunity to earn the RPSGT credential, continues to present at local, regional and national sleep meetings several times each year, has attended and presented at AAST annual meetings almost every year, and she coordinates The Southern Sleep Society annual meeting.

Marietta is a Vietnam Air Force Veteran and currently works at Morton Plant Mease Healthcare in Clearwater, FL where she manages both sleep disorders and neurodiagnostics in 4 hospitals and 2 outpatient centers within BayCare Health System.
