Minimum Education and Credentialing Recommendations for the Practice of Sleep Technology

Position Statement for Support of the Start School Later Initiative

This position supports best practice and encourages credentialing bodies for the sleep technology profession to require a minimum education level for entry into the profession, thus eliminating the clinical experience pathway for credentialing examination eligibility.

 

Given the compelling research currently available,  AAST strongly recommends that school start times for middle and high school students be delayed to 8:30 am or later to adequately accommodate student sleep requirements.
