Message from the President: March 2015

Posted by admin on Mar 5, 2015 9:37:00 AM

As we continue to work our way through this long and difficult winter, we at AAST are looking forward to spring!  In spite of the weather, we have completed some important initiatives over the winter.

The new AAST strategic plan has been finalized and can be accessed from the "About" page on the AAST website.  The plan is forward thinking and attempts to address the issues we are all facing in the changing world of healthcare and sleep medicine and technology.

We are also very proud to announce the recent publication of the new Fundamentals of Sleep Technology Workbook.   The workbook was developed as a companion to the second edition of Fundamentals of Sleep Technology and is targeted toward CoA PSG program students and technologists preparing for registry examinations.  The workbook includes multiple-choice questions, discussion questions, and illustrated case studies and, like the textbook, the new workbook includes online access to the interactive eBook edition, which can be accessed on a tablet, smartphone, or on a computer.  The online section includes training videos and modular learning tools as well.  AAST members are eligible for a 25% discount from the publisher on both the Fundamentals of Sleep Technology textbook and the Fundamentals of Sleep Technology Workbook.  To obtain the discount promotional code visit the educational resources page on the AAST website.

The calls for volunteers and awards are still open.  I encourage you to volunteer for a committee position and become involved in your membership organization. Recognize your colleagues for the contributions they have made!  The awards have been updated to reflect the changing times; we think you will be pleased with the changes.  Review the updated awards and nominate a deserving technologist on the AAST website.

I encourage you to renew your membership if you have not already done so. The AAST continues to offer excellence in education for technologists at every level, including advanced courses and online modules as well as current information, guidelines, competencies and advocacy for technologists.  We have developed a comprehensive program for SLEEP 2015 in Seattle and an exceptional Advanced Therapies course for the Fall 2015 meeting which will be held in Branson, MO on October 9th and 10th.  Save the date!
